Dealing With Harmful Substances
- Before entering a property look for key indicators – silver foil, needles and syringes in the garden – the dilapidated state of the property.
- Have a torch to hand – chances are the power will be off.
- Enter the property one at a time – don’t all pile in – let one person do the recce – no need for everyone to be put at risk.
- On entry STOP and LOOK. Look UP, in front and DOWN.
- Watch where you walk. If possible wear think soled shoes or boots.
- Do not sit on any soft surfaces – chairs, beds etc.
- Do not use banister rails etc and touch as few surfaces as possible.
- Open doors and allow time for any ambushes to fall! Before you enter the room.
- If you see signs of substance abuse STOP – put your hands in your pockets and leave.
- As you leave re trace your steps
- Inspect everything before you touch it – light switches and door handles etc.
- Call professional cleaning services.
- If you enter a property with a ‘funny’ smell either leave of ventilate the property.
- If you see suspicious substances do not do the ‘Police’ thing and test a sample on your tongue!
- If you are entering properties like this on a regular basis visit the doctor and get a Hepatitis injection – it may be free or it may cost a small sum – excellent for piece of mind.
